This November and December the Great Northern Warehouse will play host to Lenz, the city’s first ever photography festival.
The exhibition will showcase twelve up-and-coming photographers from around the world, each chosen by an internationally acclaimed panel of judges who are leaders in their field of photography and the arts.
Martin Parr, Nadia Lee Cohen, Pavel Buchler, Graham Nash and Nicola Shane selected the finalists from more than 100 submissions made via Instagram, across 20 countries.
Founded by Manchester University graduate Henry Palling, the theme of this year’s exhibition is “Solitude”, aiming to explore the diverse ways in which such a concept can emerge and be expressed through the medium of photography.
Henry said: “I’m delighted to be able to bring Lenz to Manchester and to be working with the Great Northern Warehouse to exhibit twelve talented photographers. I studied Art History in Manchester and so it felt natural to hold the festival here as much of my love of art began while living in the city.”
Centre Director for Great Northern, Mark Schofield, said: “It’s fantastic to be hosting Manchester’s first photography festival.
“The city is so diverse with a strong artistic presence, and we’re pleased we can further add to that existence.”
Redeye, the Photography Network will be supporting the festival, and as further support, there will be a number of talks and lectures held throughout the fortnight at Manchester University and the Great Northern Warehouse.
The show will take place over two weeks from 24th November – 10th December.
