Great Northern Warehouse has revealed its latest pop-up exhibition from Manchester-based photographer, Lee Cooper.
Free to visit until 17th February at 283 Deansgate, Cooper’s new showcase Victorious Voices offers a bold and compelling photographical meditation on the stigma around speaking out about childhood sexual abuse (CSA).
Through compelling visual storytelling, Cooper seamlessly blends artistry and advocacy, using art to spark meaningful conversations that provide encouragement to long-silenced voices.
Billed as ‘a celebration of the human spirit and a testament to the power of resilience in the face of adversity’, Victorious Voices features 17 portraits of survivors which seek to compassionately dispel stereotypes and shatter preconceptions around childhood sexual abuse.
Curating the exhibition has allowed Cooper, himself a survivor, to build meaningful connections and foster a supportive community. Cooper founded a support group for individuals featured in the exhibition and beyond, as well as the Manchester Photography Collective—an organisation where aspiring photographers can exchange tips, build connections, and form lasting friendships.
Commenting on the exhibition, Cooper said: “This collection of work raises awareness, educates the public, and provides a safe, empathetic space for survivors and allies to engage. Healing from childhood sexual abuse often begins with acknowledging the truth—a step that can take years. For survivors to overcome fear and share their stories publicly is transformative and drives change. Silence is what perpetrators rely on—without it, they have no cover.”
Alongside his Victorious Voices collection, visitors will also be able to view Lee’s wider work which focuses on a mix of portraiture and cityscape photography.
