Artist Kevin Boardman’s Whiteboards and Chalkboards invites creative play, doodles and problem solving
From MANCHESTER, 6 JULY artist Kevin Boardman will be occupying our No.285 Deansgate with a pop-up ideas factory; an interactive installation with objects made out of whiteboards and chalkboards for anyone to use as creative aids for solving problems, forming new ideas, or simply doodle.
Working on the fringes of design, Kevin’s artistic practice investigates the early stages of idea generation. Using conventional idea tools such as whiteboards and blackboards he attempts to repurpose and reuse these tools, creating new objects and spaces to understand and potentially offer alternative modes for creative intervention.
Kevin is a student at Manchester school of Art studying MRes (Masters of Research) in Art and Design. Talking about his use of the whiteboard as a creative tool, Kevin asks; “Do you remember using a whiteboard or chalkboard? It was probably stuck to a wall, you may of have had little say in the ideas at hand and you were probably bored of the topic of discussion.
“I wanted to create an idea factory to challenge that assumption or past experience. By turning this conventional wall-mounted board into clothing, tables, spheres and other objects, my intention is to set the scene for collaboration and sharing.
Kevin’s installation is an open invitation for anyone to bring along their problems, ideas, writings, drawings, playfulness. As facilitator, Kevin wants to encourage curiosity and collaboration in the space, perfect for anyone who would like to take a break from work, wants to share an idea or engage in a creative environment.
The space will be open for anyone to join in with the activities from Monday-Thursdays from 6-21 July and Tuesday-Thursday 26-28 July. Daily opening times will be shared on social media @dezrezprojects
